Can I book a viewing or ask a question first?

Yes. Use the contact button on this page to speak with the accommodation team before reserving. This gives unsure applicants a low-pressure way to check availability, room options or next steps.

Can I choose my room type?

You can select a preferred room type on the application form. Preferences are considered during allocation, but specific rooms and room types cannot be guaranteed.

Who will I live with?

Bower Hall aims to create a balanced student community and, where possible, allocate residents with students in the same academic year. Accommodation is mixed gender with balance considered during allocation.

What is included?

All utilities, broadband, study spaces, common areas, housekeeping for rooms and shared areas, bed linen and towels, onsite management, CCTV and 24-hour security are included. Laundry, printing and photocopying may carry additional charges.

What happens after I reserve?

The accommodation team reviews the application and deposit record. The student is then asked to complete the remaining booking details, including home address, date of birth, emergency contact, student ID upload, notes and terms agreement.

Can I apply before receiving a college offer?

Applications can be submitted before final college confirmation. Offers and room allocations remain subject to the Bower Hall allocation process, availability and applicant eligibility.

Cancellation policy

How do I cancel?

Cancellation requests should be made in writing by email to the accommodation team as soon as possible, quoting the applicant name, contact details and application reference if available.

Is there a cooling-off period?

Where a licence agreement has been signed, Bower Hall may apply a written cooling-off period before check-in. The final length and conditions should be confirmed in the licence agreement.

What if I do not receive my CAO or college place?

First-year applicants should notify Bower Hall in writing promptly after receiving CAO or college results and provide supporting documentation. The accommodation team may review cancellation or waitlist options based on the final policy.

What if I cannot obtain a visa?

International applicants should contact the accommodation team promptly and provide the visa refusal documentation. Cancellation options will be reviewed in line with the final licence terms.

What if I cancel after the cooling-off period?

After the relevant cancellation window, the resident may remain liable for accommodation fees until a suitable replacement student is approved and takes over the room, subject to the final licence agreement.

House rules and conduct

Residents are expected to respect the building, other residents, staff and neighbours. Bower Hall may refuse or end accommodation where serious misconduct, damage, non-payment or breach of house rules occurs.

Deposit and damage

The €800 damages/security deposit is refundable at the end of the academic year, subject to damage, missing items, cleaning costs, lost keys or other charges permitted under the final licence agreement. It is separate from, and not deducted from, accommodation fees.

CCTV and personal information

CCTV operates internally and externally for safety and security. Applicant and resident information should be handled only for accommodation administration, safety, payment and legal compliance purposes.

Bower Hall Student Campus is a Hanly Group project transforming the former Our Lady's Bower Convent Boarding School into managed student accommodation for Athlone. The project brings together the group's hospitality, construction and restoration experience with a clear aim: to create a safe, practical and well-supported student campus.

The accommodation has been planned around the everyday needs of third-level living, with 164 bed spaces, dedicated study rooms, private study rooms, self-catering kitchens, social areas, all utilities included, broadband, housekeeping, linen service, daily reception, onsite management, CCTV and 24/7 security.

Set within 7.5 acres of private woodland on Retreat Road, the campus gives students space to study, meet and relax while staying close to TUS Athlone, town-centre amenities, public transport, shopping, healthcare and sports facilities.

The Hanly Group has restored and developed landmark properties including Lough Rynn Castle and Kilronan Castle, bringing that heritage-led approach to Bower Hall's new student accommodation use.
